Requirements
Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
· Conducts pre-trip inspections of the vehicle by conducting a visual inspections, checking the tire pressure, fluid levels, door and windows in proper operating order, reporting any deficiencies or need of services to the Program Director; reviews schedule printouts for routes.
· Drive/operate the van according to scheduled events/appointments.
· Drive/operate the van in a safe manner following traffic regulations.
· Complete a Usage Checklist, Passenger Waiver, and any other required forms and turn them into the Administrative Assistant monthly in a timely manner.
· Assist resident riders in getting on and off the van, unload bags, and works with the designated trip escort in the event of an emergency.
· Regulates heating and cooling for the passengers’ comfort.
· Contacts back-up drivers, as needed, to ensure a driver is available for all trips scheduled.
· Takes the van for repairs and maintenance service as needed; picks up and returns the van to the appropriate parking location.
· Maintains the van in a clean condition, including taking it to be washed and cleaning the interior as necessary.
· Renders first aid as necessary.
· Attends training sessions as scheduled.
· Sits for extended periods of time; stands, bends stoops, reaches, climbs stairs to enter and exit vehicle and walks intermittently.
· Complete trip logs consisting of fuel used, miles traveled, number of passengers transported and for what purpose.
· Observe driving conditions (roads and weather) and determine whether conditions are hazardous enough to discontinue or cancel a trip; advises Program Director of conditions and determination.
· Keep the van a smoke-free environment.
Qualifications
A Driver shall have the following:
· Must be capable of safely operating a twenty (20) passenger van in a safe manner both locally and out-of-town under all driving conditions.
· Must be at least twenty-one (21) years of age.
· Must have legal authorization to work in the USA.
· High school diploma or GED equivalent required.
· Must submit to and pass a pre-employment drug and alcohol screen.
· Must possess a current Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with a passenger endorsement valid in the State of Pennsylvania.
· Must possess and maintain a safe driving record. Failure to do so may result in discipline up to and including termination.
· Must possess current CPR certificate or the must acquire the same within three (3) months from the date of hire Failure to obtain the CPR certificate before the end of the probationary period will result in termination. (How long is the probationary period for)
· Must not have been convicted of, pleaded guilty to, entered a plea of nolo contendere to, or received judicial diversion for any felony charges or to any violation of any Federal or State Laws or City ordinances relating to force, violence, theft, dishonesty, gambling, controlled substances or sex-related crimes.
· Must not have been convicted of, pleaded guilty to, entered a plea of nolo contendere to, or received judicial diversion for any misdemeanor charges involving DUI/DWI or alcohol, or use, possession, manufacture, or sale of controlled substances or drug paraphernalia within the past five (5) years.
· Complete knowledge of traffic laws.
· Must be knowledgeable of safe driving techniques and map reading, including possessing a “sense of direction” in locating destinations locally and out of town.
· Must have mechanical skills necessary to check the vehicles to ensure they are in a safe operating condition. The ability to diagnose mechanical problems and check repair work would be a preferred asset in this position.
· Record keeping skills are necessary to maintain proper records on the use of the van.
· Ability to communicate well with residents, volunteer trip escorts, back-up drivers, program staff and personnel from other agencies.
· Ability to establish and maintain effective, harmonious, cooperative and productive working relationships with the public and other program employees.
· Possess the temperament and good judgment to deal with adolescent males, some of whom may be irate or unreasonable.
· Literacy in English with the ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions and posted schedules.
· Have a good reputation for and ability to maintain confidentiality, integrity, and honesty.
· Ability to appear on time for work and notify the Program Director in advance if unable to work.
· Maintain a neat, clean and acceptable personal appearance.
· Ability to work an erratic work schedule with nights, weekends, and holiday work required.
· Knowledge and/or the ability to learn and utilize safety precautions.
· Ability to perform job responsibilities in a timely manner to meet scheduled deadlines.
· Ability to learn and follow the program’s policies and regulations.
· Ability to maintain accurate time sheets and submit them to the Program Director in a timely manner.
· The ability to sit for extended periods of time; stands, bends stoops, reaches, climbs stairs to enter and exit vehicle and walks intermittently.
Persons in this position are required to maintain licenses in good standing, if applicable. All candidates must pass a Child Abuse Clearance and Pennsylvania Criminal Record search, plus an FBI criminal history clearance if resident outside Pennsylvania. All staff will be required to participate in prescribed annual training.
